A selection of branding pieces created for Formula E events between 2017–2019
The podium for the 2018 Ad Diriyah E-Prix was one of the most interesting podium structures to date. It was a huge area with different levels and angles to consider.
Due to the amount of branding space available I wanted to make sure the brand came across as clean and consistent while also having clear deliniation between areas.
I think this was a very successful application of the brand that came across well in photography and broadcast.
I was tasked with refreshing the look of the Allianz E-Village branding for Season 5. Up until this point it had all felt very disjointed and there wasn’t a style that was carried throughout and didn’t feel like it was part of Formula E. My aim for the project was to come up with a style that kept within the overarching Formula E brand yet felt a bit different and fitted with the fan experience at event.
I worked closely with our partnership team to make sure Allianz felt they were getting their brand across while keeping our brand as strong as possible.
Season 5 of Formula E came with a new look for the field in the futuristic Gen2 car. The progress in technology from the previous generation meant that the battery could last a full race distance, therefore eliminating the mid-race car swap which was the main area of strategy for teams and drivers. Since there was no need for drivers to go back to the pits there was a need to create something that added that strategy and gave the viewers something exciting to watch.
Attack Mode gives the drivers an extra 25kW of power to use. To activate Attack Mode drivers must go off line into the activation zone to gain the power. Attack Mode must be used for the full time specified before the race.
For me this project was very much a problem solving one. We had the concept and a rough logo but we had to work out how the product would end up working and how we would visually represent it through VR in the TV graphics, trackside branding and link it all in with the lights on the halo. Making sure it looked consistent over all the applications was important as they were all going to be seen on screen at once.
The Season 4 Safety Car livery was designed to get away from the usual plain white/silver support car liveries while remaining true to the brand.
